The Lagos State Police have arrested an Anglican Church Pastor, Rev. Clement Eze Obi, who, with the help of his wife, hid in a big sack in his wardrobe, to evade arrest.
According to Pmexpress, Obi, was arrested at his residence in Ijedodo, Lagos, after the escape of one Madubuko Chukwuma, who was facing trial for stealing a tricycle.
Rev. Obi who went to the Ejigbo Magistrates court and facilitated the release of Chukwuma and stood as surety for him for the perfection of his bail, was implicated after the suspect jumped bail.
The Presiding Magistrate, Mr. T.O. Shomade, then issued a bench warrant against Chukwuma and his surety, ordering the prosecutor, Supol Kenneth Asibor, to arrest the surety.
However, the policemen who tried for months to arrest the surety were always told by his wife that he was not around and had traveled out of the state.
The lie was eventually busted after the policemen insisted on searching the house during their last visit.
It was gathered that before the Pastor’s wife opened the door, she quickly hid her husband inside a big sack which she dropped in their wardrobe.
However, when the police team searched the other rooms and did not find Rev. Obi, they asked her to open the wardrobe. She opened the wardrobe, only for the detectives to discover he was inside a big sack covered with clothes.
He was promptly arrested and detained at the police station. The Pastor has now been charged with perverting the course of justice and aiding Chukwuma’s escape.
